It's officially 2021. We made it!
For as long as I can remember, I have started the year off with these 3 disciplines to get the year started right. The combination of these 3 things have proved to be a winning combo in my life & quite a few other people's that I know!
#1 PICK & COMMIT TO A NEW READ THROUGH THE BIBLE IN A YEAR PLAN
My Pastor challenged me about 15 years ago to read through the entire bible in a year using a reading plan. I loved it so much & my daily life was impacted so deeply that I have tried to read through the bible every year using some sort of plan since.
This year I am doing The One Year Chronological Plan. You can find the plan along with many many others at bible.com here. The specific plan I am doing can be found here. Every year I also try to pick a different translation of the bible to read to keep things fresh. This year I'm reading the Easy to Read Version (ERV).
#2 PICK A ONE WORD FOCUS FOR THE YEAR
I read about this a few years ago & tried it & fell in love with it. You can find all the information on how to pick a word at www.myoneword.org, but the basics are you pick one word that at the end of the next year would represent who you want to become.
My word for 2020 was Steward. It proved to be quite prophetic in my life!
I don't have a word for 2021 yet which is hard for me, but in prayer I felt that I needed to seek The Lord a bit more during an extended time of prayer & fasting.
Which leads me to my next discipline that I start every year with...
#3 COMMIT TO 21 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING
Every January our church (Anthem Church), along with many other churches around the Country, kicks off the year with a special time of 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting.
This year's prayer & fasting time is from January 3rd - 23rd. You can read more about it HERE. I also wrote a short guide with an overview on fasting HERE.
WOULD YOU DO ME A FAVOR?
I am tentative to write this because when I hit publish I have to hold myself accountable, but I I'm going to put myself out here a a little bit...
One of my goals for 2021 is to write more. If you are interested in joining me on this journey please subscribe to my email list by scrolling to the bottom of the page. When you subscribe I will send a few weekly resources right to you!
