Day Four: Put Some Respect On His Name

When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Mark 10:47 NIV

When Bartimaeus cried out, he didn’t say, “Jesus from Nazareth! He said, "Jesus, Son of David." Why is this worth paying attention to? When Bartimaeus called Jesus "Son of David" it shows that he believed that Jesus was not just a man. It shows that he believed Jesus was the son of God, that Jesus was God in the flesh - the One who had the power to do what no one else could . That’s faith.

Bartimaeus had never seen a miracle with his own eyes. He was blind, remember? But somewhere along the way, he heard enough about Jesus to know:  Jesus is able to do that which I'm asking Him to do. And he called on Him accordingly.

Pray Like You Know Who You’re Talking To

When you say the name of Jesus, do you say it like you’re talking to a friend… or the King of Kings? Do you call on Him like He might help… or like He’s able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ask or imagine? When you pray in the name of Jesus, you’re not praying to a dead man. You're not praying to an idea or a philosophy. You're praying to the risen, living, reigning Savior of the world. There is power in the name of Jesus! Power to heal. Power to save. Power to restore. Power to break addiction. Power to cancel the assignment of the enemy over your life.

Let us pray...

Call on His name with boldness today. Whisper it. Shout it. Speak it over your home, your body, your family, your future. Don't forget that there is still power in the name of Jesus!

Busyness has interrupted my sit down prayer times but, this devotional has really helped redirect me. I am constantly talking to God so I didn't feel like I was missing anything for a minute . The need to be nearer to Him,at His feet, became evident soon enough. I put on my Mary hat and put my Martha hat to the side. I simply can't do life without Him and I don't want to. Thankyou Pastor Sam for an honest, meaty, and to the point, teaching! Lying down in green pastures and hanging out by still waters!
